The Leprechaun — Keeper of Secrets
He let you think you'd caught him.
Traditional Irish folklore gives the leprechaun a sharper personality than the modern shorthand of “good luck”. He is solitary, elusive and difficult to outwit, often linked with hidden treasure and with stories in which the person trying to catch him discovers that keeping hold of fortune is harder than finding it.
That tension is what makes the character interesting. The leprechaun is rarely powerful in the obvious sense; his advantage is wit, patience and the ability to stay one step ahead. The humour in the old stories comes from the same place — somebody believes they finally have him cornered, and a moment later the opportunity is gone.
Keeper of Secrets takes that older character as its starting point: clever rather than heroic, mischievous without becoming comic, and carrying the sense that there is always more going on than he intends to reveal.
The appeal of the leprechaun is not simply luck or treasure. It is the idea of fortune guarded by someone who understands its value better than the person trying to take it.
